How do I change my URL in WordPress and Why is it so Important to check for broken Links

You can easily change the Site URL for your WordPress page any time you want, but there are a few important adjustments that must be made before making the switch.

Steps to follow:

1. Change WordPress URL in WordPress Admin Dashboard.

  1. After downloading all your site files to your local PC and then moving them to your new URL, you will need to log into your WordPress Dashboard as an administrator.

With SSLs gaining momentum, it has become necessary to make it easier for users to handle the growing number of SSL they have.

For this reason, we’ve moved all SSL generation and management operations under one roof.

This way, you will now be able to easily request and manage SSL certificates from just one place.

SSL certificates organized into two tables

For the sake of convenience, SSL certificates have now been organized into two tables.

On the top of the screen you can see a table of all active domains and subdomains, which are hosted in your account, no matter if they have SSL installed or not:

From there, you will be able to manage all existing SSL certificates with a click of the mouse.

Moreover, you will be able to easily add SSLs to selected hosts, which would help scale up SSL sales for your store:

Scrolling down you will see a table with all domains, which are registered with us but are hosted outside your account, or domains which do not resolve properly for some reason.

Again, you will be able to generate SSL certificates for them or manage the existing installations.

Different SSL scenarios

Depending on the particular SSL case, hosts will be listed in the aforementioned tables like this:

  • A domain with an active SSL – the following information will be listed per certificate: status, expiration date, SSL type (regular/Let’s encrypt); from the ‘details’ column, the user will be able to download the given certificate’s details (CSR, private key, certificate, CA bundle);

  • A domain with a non-active SSL (ordered from us) – a special icon will mark the inactive status of the SSL; the user will need to click on the icon in order to activate the SSL; a modal window will allow them to select the shared/dedicated SSL they want to install the SSL on;
  • A domain without an SSL – a special ‘add SSL certificate’ link will let the user order a regular SSL, request a ‘‘Let’s encrypt’ certificate or upload an SSL, which has been obtained from somewhere else.

Please keep in mind that If you have an SSL installed for a given host, that host will only be able to use an ‘SSL-friendly’ IP address.

So if, for example, you want to point an SSL-installed host to the shared IP of the hosting account (from the ‘edit host’ option in the ‘hosted domains’ section), you will need to deactivate that SSL first.

You can do that by using the “deactivate” icon in the table:

Both ‘Let’s encrypt’ and regular SSLs will do the encryption job that is expected of them to protect your sites against interception and eavesdropping.

So, your choice will solely be determined by the type of site you manage and hence your security needs.

Here is what you need to consider when choosing an SSL certificate:

‘Let’s encrypt’ certificates – really quick and easy to install. Perfect for non-commercial sites, blogs or photo galleries. Valid for only 90 days and must be renewed before they expire. On our platform, ‘Let’s encrypt’ certificates are renewed automatically, so you won’t have to worry about that.

Regular SSL certificates – include a warranty against misuse or mis-issuance. Suitable for e-stores or enterprise sites, which need warranty-equipped SSL certificate issued by an established CA. Valid for at least one year and can be purchased for more years in advance.

Third-party certificates – if you have an SSL certificate purchased from somewhere else, you can upload it to a selected host with a click of the mouse.

What is SSH about?

As a network protocol, SSH allows a secure connection to be established between computers.

This is most often done via an SSH client, which allows a user to connect to another computer’s SSH server and remotely run commands on that computer.

A user can run an SSH client on any computer and connect to any computer they are authorized to access via the SSH protocol.

With regard to web hosting, SSH would allow users to access their projects on the server and apply various actions to them directly.

For example, a user could list files on the server where their projects are located using simple SSH commands:

What is web-based SSH about?

As its name suggests, web SSH allows users to bypass the regular SSH client and connect to a server using their preferred web browser.

The communication between the browser and the SSH server is done via an intermediary web application server.

How does web-based SSH work on our platform?

The web-based SSH option has been easily integrated into the Web Hosting Control Panel.

Users can access it from the Web SSH icon in the header area of the dashboard (it is right next to the Help Centre icon).

Here is how our implementation of web-based SSH works:

When a user clicks on the Web SSH icon, a connection with the SSH server will be initiated automatically via a background script.

This way, the user will not need to enter any login details like if they were using a regular SSH client.

What the user will see is a fast and responsive terminal interface directly in the browser, which is actually just HTML code.

When the user enters any command in the browser and presses the enter key, the same script that is responsible for the secure connection to the server will take the command inputs and pass them over to the server.

From there on, the server will accept the commands, execute them and return the results.

Our script will capture the results and it will output back to the same terminal-like interface.

The user can use the web-based SSH terminal while browsing in the Control Panel or select to view it in full.

This will hide the rest of the control panel but will not cover the rest of the browser window.

Once the user has finished working with the web-based SSH terminal, they can close it by clicking on the “X” icon in the upper right corner.

If they want to keep a log file of their session, they can easily do so by clicking on the Start Log icon in the lower left corner of the browser.

When finished, they can simply download the log file to their device by clicking on the Download Log option.

New prices for .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO and .BIZ domains from May 16th

The group of gTLD ‘veterans’ will undergo a parallel price update on May 16th in accordance with several significant market shifts over the last few years.

Why is the price increase needed?

As you may have already noticed, over the last few years the generic TLD registries have updated their domain registration prices on a consistent basis.

The price increase practice started over 10 years ago when ICANN allowed the respective generic registries to increase the cost of registering a domain by however much they deem appropriate.

The main reason behind that move were the registries’ long-term strategic plans to upgrade their security & support infrastructures to the benefit of the domain owners themselves.

Those require substantial funding, the main source of which could namely be the revenue generated by the future domain registrations/transfers/renewals.

Here is a short overview of the TLD price change history:

  1. .COM – the most popular TLD on the web is managed by Verisign. Verisign’s deal with ICANN in 2007 originally allowed them to increase the price of .COM domains by 7% per year. Five years later, however, the U.S. government demanded that the price be frozen for a certain period of time. Verisign and ICANN in turn re-negotiated their contract and agreed on a ‘price freeze’ until 2024.
  2. .NET – originally, the .NET domain price increases were more sporadic prior to 2012. Since 2013, however, the .NET’s registry Verisign has been implementing a 10% incremental pricing policy on an yearly basis.
  3. .BIZ – the first substantial registration/renewal price increase for the Neustar-managed gTLD was introduced in September 2013 when the price for a .BIZ domain was raised by 10%. The second massive price increase came two years later, prompting a parallel .BIZ price change on the market. The same scenario was repeated last year when another 10% were added on top of the .BIZ gTLD’s price.
  4. .INFO – just like with .BIZ, the most significant .INFO price update was initiated in 2013 (by Afilias – the TLD’s registry) and was followed by two other increases (the final one was carried out last summer).
  5. .ORG – the Public Interest Registry (PIR), the overseer of .ORG domains, also made use of its contract rights and initiated a series of updates over the last few years.

What is the price update all about?

In order to minimize the negative effect of this pricing policy on your domain portfolio, over the past five years we’ve done our best to refrain from implementing consistent price updates with the exception of the cases where the new registry prices have gone way higher than expected.

With the new series of gTLD price hikes anticipated to take place throughout 2018 (in fact, the .NET registry already implemented its campaign in February), we’ll be forced to carry out a gTLD-wide price update on our platform as well.

That said, on May 16th, 2018, the .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ and .INFO domain registration, transfer and renewal prices will be increased by an average of 20%.

We’ll be forced to suspend the ‘free-domain-with-a-hosting-plan’ offer for our .NET domains as well.

NOTE: The new price will also apply to all hosting plan-included .NET domains that have been registered for free.

The .COM promotion will not be affected by this update for the time being.
